If I have to review and test every "a = b + c" exhaustively, my program will never make it to production, which if the program is written in Python, might actually be a good thing. One of the values of a good programming language is that you don't have to review and test every possible permutation of bits in memory because it guarantees that a large amount of these permutations cannot happen. The fact that it is theoretically possible to look at every line and test every input and every scenario does not mean that this is practically possible. There will be Python defenders that will say that this is not a deficiency of the language but of the code reviewing and testing strategy. I have on many occasions launched new versions of a big Python application in production, only to immediately drown in errors, caused by exceptions that were in turn caused by Python code where a single glance confirmed that it could never ever work and consequently had never been run: Not on a developer workstation, not in a unit test, and not in an integration test. In one instances, some years ago, I managed to convince our organization to rewrite our system in Rust. Through my years supporting large Python applications I have seen and experienced horrors that would not have happened had our application been written in a sane, compiled, and type safe language. Worse, Python's duck typing invites smart but terrible code that inevitably comes round and bites us in the ass. That means that we need to have the discipline to check all the input data exhaustively, which history shows we are not very good at. Typically when writing a function you are only partially in control of the data that goes into that function. The problem with Python is of course that it is an interpreted language with dynamic and duck typing : We type in some code, save it, and then only find out at runtime whether a group of statements always works, sometimes works, or does not work at all, based on the data that we put into it. Really the only thing to do is to encapsulate the reactor in concrete, let it cool down, and build a new one from proper building materials. Instead people stick on new bricks all over the place to keep the thing going. But now the reactor has been running for a while and we have radiation leaks everywhere and nobody dares touch anything. Using Python for a large application is like building a nuclear reactor using Lego bricks: Yes it has bright colors and it was really simple to get started. I base my fairly harsh judgment on many years of experience running large applications written in Python. However, the ongoing popularity of Python is a problem and one that sets our industry back years for every year of its continuing use. I would have to agree with the author of the post, though grudgingly, that Python is super popular and that good knowledge of Python will help you get a job.

Purpose and meaning of those physical lines, such as TX, RX, DCD, CTS etc.Electrical characteristics of the signals carried by those interconnections (voltage levels, slew rates, impedance etc). Some RS-232 variants also specify which types of connectors and cable you must use. Physical wiring, the interconnections between RS-232 compliant devices. It defines the signalling requirements for serial communication, by laying out rules and guidelines regarding: So while a UART may help you implement an RS-232 interface, it is not an RS-232 interface itself. If it does not you will have to control them with your software/firmware directly. These will also need to be level converted, and your UART may, or may not, support these signals. Further, the RS-232 standard includes the definition of several other signalling pins besides TX and RX, which you may need to use depending on the equipment you need to connect to. A complete RS-232 interface will typically involve both a UART and an RS-232 level converter. You will need to convert the output of the UART to the +/-12V standard that RS-232 requires. UARTs do not typically interface directly with RS-232. The UART can be configured to support these various protocols on its TX and RX lines. You can find older equipment that includes parity bits, or uses 7 or 9 bits. Most equipment today manufactured uses this encoding, but there's no requirement to do so. Generally, when people use RS-232, they use a simple 8 bit NRZ encoding with one start bit and one stop bit. However, neither the UART, nor the RS-232 standard define what is sent on the TX and RX lines. You know, then, that a standard RS-232 cable will connect the two. To avoid the need for special converters or cables, the manufacturers may choose to follow the RS-232 standard. While two pieces of hardware may have UARTs, you don't know that they'll connect without damage, or communicate properly unless you know they have the same pinout and voltage standards, or include a converter or specially wired cable specific to the interconnection of these two specificl devices. This is a specific interface standard that allows for equipment interoperability. RS-232 - A standard defining the signals between two devices, defining the signal names, their purpose, voltage levels, connectors and pinouts. At minimum it means that it has a TX and an RX line, which sends a serial data stream and receives a serial data stream. The term is generic, and does not represent a specific standard. The "universal" part means that it can be configured to support many different specific serial protocols. This is, essentially, a serial communications interface. UART (or USART) - Universal (Synchronous) Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter When Chase is asked to lead his team, he is hesitant about it at first, but is encouraged by Ryder. Ryder then splits everyone into two teams to clear the various parts of Adventure Bay Ryder, Zuma and Rubble in one, and Chase, Rocky, Skye and Marshall in the other. The PAW Patrol soon arrive back at Adventure Bay and they all leave the PAW Patroller in their vehicles. Mayor Humdinger, upon hearing Cap'n Turbot's warning, flees the scene as Harold unknowingly continues his calculations. As he calculates with algebra and pi, Cap'n Turbot notices the meteor heading towards them and ironically takes a picture of it to Wally's disbelief. The PAW Patrol once again races to the rescue before the meteor hit.īack at Adventure Beach, Harold is making calculations on where the meteor would strike. He then decides to clear Adventure Bay away from the impact and has Everest to clear the beach while they clear the town area. Ryder immediately checks the data on the meteor and confirms that the meteor was going to hit Adventure Bay. In the PAW Patroller, Ryder and the pups receive the call from Everest and upon the news of a meteor, the pups gasp in shock. Without haste, she calls the PAW Patrol to warn them about it. He gives Everest a look through the telescope and she concludes that it was a meteor. As Jake peers into the telescope, he chances upon the meteor and notices that it was heading towards Adventure Bay. As Harold apologizes, he notices that the rocket misses the moon entirely and instead crashes into a travelling meteor, causing it to fall rapidly down into the Earth's atmosphere.Īs the meteor falls, Jake and Everest set up their telescope to stargaze having chanced upon a perfect opportunity. However, as Harold explains that the rocket was capable of breaking through the Earth's atmosphere to Cap'n Turbot, he accidentally drops his laptop and launches the rocket up into space without his uncle. As he announces his plans to onlookers, Cap'n Turbot and Wally, he has Harold hurry up their plans to prevent the PAW Patrol from messing them up. Meanwhile at The beach, Mayor Humdinger is preparing for his rocket launch to the moon to claim his title of "First-Mayor-On-The-Moon" with help from his nephew, Harold Humdinger. Ryder then says his usual catchphrase and heads back to the Lookout with the pups. With a small bounce, Farmer Al is saved, and he thanks them for the help. As soon as Farmer Al starts falling upon his popped balloon, Ryder quickly orders Chase to catch him using his net. Chase then assures him that they got everything under control and Ryder has Marshall climb his ladder to pop the balloon with his tail and Skye for air support. They soon arrive at the barn to find Farmer Al clinging onto the silo roof with a big red balloon tied to his waist. Ryder deploys out on his ATV vehicle together with Chase in his police cruiser, Marshall in his fire truck and Skye in her copter from the PAW Patroller. The sun is setting upon Adventure Bay as the PAW Patrol race to rescue Farmer Al from the top of his silo. When Mayor Humdinger and his nephew trap Ryder and steal the meteor to take over the city, the pups must work together and use their new powers–from Chase's super speed to Marshall's mighty heat, Rubble's super strength and more–to race to the rescue and save the day. In this high-flying, heroic mission, the PAW Patrol are given Mighty Pup powers after a mysterious meteor lands in Adventure Bay.
